The UN Job List Widget for your Website

Some of you may already discovered the UN Job List Widget which is in the lower right side of my blog. The reason for creating this widget is that I wanted to create a simple and easy way to include UN Job List jobs into websites and blogs. Of course you can always use any of the many RSS feeds that the UN Job List produces – you probably know that every search result on the UN Job List creates a custom RSS feed just for you. But the widget is a nice and optically appealing way of listing UN Job List vacancies in your blog.

The UN Job List widget is available for WordPress as a regular plugin and for any other website via an iFrame code. The way it works is pretty simple: Get your UN Job List widget code over at the UN Job List Search page. The widget code can be quite long depending on your search but essentially it tells the widget which kinds of vacancies you would like to display in your website. Play with the search results and make sure you really get the jobs you want to before you proceed.

Finally, enter the widget code into your WordPress plugin or into your iFrame code. The instructions on how to do this are on the widget documentation page.

A few notes on the blog update

I hope that the new blog layout is easier to read. Also, the new layout leaves more space for photos, something the Little Peacekeeper (http://www.littlepeacekeeper.org) will be very happy about. For those who wonder how this blog looked like before the upgrade I attached a screenshot below.

As mentioned before, please let me know if something doesn’t work and I will fix it.

Scheduled maintenance today – update

Hello together,

I’m in the process of updating the blog and thus there will be was a scheduled maintenance later earlier today.

There is still some work to be done and not everything is fixed yet but if you have some comments / complaints / ideas please leave a comment below.

Google’s sitemaps on the way to become a standard

Looks like Google’s sitemaps will be even wider spread in the future. Microsoft and Yahoo joined Google and will all follow the format as described on sitemaps.org according to heise.de (German Source).

To conveniently update sitemaps via WordPress Arne Brachhold developed a WordPress Plugin. Cool thing – works perfectly. Thanks Arne!

WordPress Themes

Well, what should I say? I needed to get into WordPress Themes a little bit since I wasn’t satisfied with the things I found on other pages. I finally ended up getting the Jentri Theme. I modified it a bit to fit it better to larger screens. If you would like to have it, drop me a note and I will publish it or send it to you. I’m still tweaking the details so no official release yet.
