  1. Dear Sabastian Rottmair,
I applied for a position at the United Nations and was longlisted and given a written test which i passed and shortlisted and interviewed. But to my surprise, i was sent a message from the UN that my application was not successful and the same regret message was sent to me for other applications i made at the UN which i did not even take any written test nor interviewed. Please, sir, should i still have hope for the interviewed as i am thinking that, that might be sent in error? Thanks and waiting for your answers.

    • Dear Dennis, you are very luck that you got as far as you did! It is incredibly hard to even get to the interview stage. However, this is obviously not the result you are hoping for. So I would encourage you to try to finding out where you can sharpen your profile even further. With regards to these letters being sent in error, I’m afraid I see this more pessimistic than you. Keep in mind that I have no insight into the process but in my experience, regret letters are sent only at a time when a candidate has accepted a post and not before. So I see regret letters as final.

  2. DEAR SEBASTIAN ROTTMAIR,
THANK, SIR FOR YOUR ANSWERS. DEAR ROTTMAIR, MY ANOTHER QUESTIONS ARE THESE : SHOULD I STILL HOPE FOR THAT UN INTERVIEW OR NOT? BECAUSE ON THAT INTERVIEW DATE, I PERFORMED VERY WELL TO THE EXTENT THAT THE PANELS WERE VERY HAPPY WITH MY RESPONSES AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL CONTACT ME. SO, THAT IS WHY I AM SO CONFUSED AND SURPRISE OF THAT LETTER THAT IS BEING SENT MY MAIL THAT MY APPLICATION WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL INSTEAD OF SENDING TO ME THE OUTCOME OF THE INTERVIEW.
MY SECOND QUESTION IS THIS: HOW CAN THEY SEND THE SAME LETTER OF MY APPLICATION NOT BEING SUCCESSFUL FOR OTHER APPLICATIONS I MADE WHICH THEY DID NOT EVEN LONGLIST OR SHORTLIST OR INTERVIEW ME? IS IT NOT CONFUSING DEMORALIZING? SO, PLEASE, ADVICE ME WHETHER TO CONTINUE HOPING FOR THE INTERVIEW OR NOT? THANKS. WAITING FOR YOUR ANSWERS AND ADVICE.

  3. dear sebastian rottmair,
My question is this : Concerning the Interview i went at the United Nations for a position which i did well and impressed the panels and even the members of the panel expressed it out of my good performance and now that, that kind of letter was sent to me of my application not being successful and the same kind of letters of my applications not being successful were also sent to even other applications i made which i was not longlisted, shortlisted or interviewed. Concerning this one i have already being lonlisted, shortlisted and interviewed and the panel were happy with my resposes, should i still expect something positive from that interview? or should i still hope on it? Thanks as i am waiting for your courageous answers.
