    JD:

Careers.un.org is an older HR portal, now with very limited functionality, you can only see the adverts and some general information but when you apply to any posting that redirects you to Inspira.

    Thanks Anja!

Organizational diversity on merit sounds more appropriate, but strict rules of having a certain number of female applicants for every single job posting (in extended time) is odd. If they can’t find females, I am sure they don’t either push their next door neighbors to fill a job 😀

Any thought about job application submission extended date. I recently experienced with my application with UNOPS, where the job poster (UNOPS) twice informed me of extension to the submission date.

What could be the Reasons for Extension to application submission date?

Pmf: Congrats & wish you success !

Would suggest that you contact your referees (references you provided) and check if they have been contacted by UN HRM team already, just in case if either of your referee was not available – request them to be available.

In case the UN HRM asked three top candidates the same (you being one) then the HRM will evaluate references feedback too.

No one but only the UN HRM have the answer to your question about your chances of securing your dream job.

If you browse through this forum, you may find applicants at different level of recruitment process are waiting for months, and there are no two cases similar. I must say you are the top brass here (2 week + 2 week + 5 hours)

    You kidding 😀

Good to know that you will soon start working with UN at NY.
When you said ‘international Passport’, did you mean the National Passport.
You are talking about joining date and also asking for hope? Come on !

Be the Change: You are welcome, I simply cannot comment on your situation outcome/status, but the instructions/draft of the email/acknowledgement about your application submission that you have received, may clarify your doubts.

What is your application status states, any timeline? Is it through Inspira?

Being a civil servant would be like half way to work at teh UN…

NO it is the experience expertise skills that are required not the status of organization.

I wonder if being a State Government Military member would be a down side for the selection process.

NO not at all as long as you states clearly in your application and if there is no conflict of interest.

I wish you and everyone here a success !

    Be The Change:
Depending on the country of your origin and the membership status of the gov institute with the UN. The UN asks you to identify if your present/last employer is/was a gov institute (if so, that makes the worker a civil servant) then it may create a conflict of interest hiring such a person under the advertised contract agreement for the UN job.

The civil servants in any country are recruited by the UN system organizations but they are seconded by their govs. Meaning if you are currently working with your government agency/institute that is recognized by the UN to have comparable protocols in place, they may hire you but in that case while assessing you they also have to negotiate with your current employer and then normally your current employer seconded you to new assignment at the UN for the post duration. Once you complete your assignment with the UN, you can get back where you left.

In case your last employer was a gov agency/institute, sometimes you need a NOC from your last or present employer to work outside of the country in certain position.

You seems to already know that bureaucracy is a lengthy word!

    Hi,

My experience with UN System Organization: I applied for UNEP/Geneva P2 1 year renewable contract sometime mid Dec 2017. Soon I submitted my application the application status turned to ‘under consideration’. After following Inspira for application status on regular basis all this time, yesterday the status turned to ‘filled from roster’. (three month a contract is signed as the hiring manager tend to inform the rest once a contract is signed)

While browsing through Inspira instructions, I found that Hiring Managers are supposed to shortlist/recommend candidates to the selection board within two months of the application closing date. So in my case, the hiring manager did that within two months and I believe the third month they interviewed and signed the contract with an applicant from the roster.

Given this situation, I now tend to believe shortlisting is done within first month of closing date so if an applicant does not hear anything in due time (first two months max) it mean the hiring manager is considering other applicants or recommending a roster applicant, hence, it’s hopeless to hope anything positive.

Note that this is my experience and it may not be always like this with every system organization, as I have an application status with UNOPS P2 PM position
Longlisted/shortlisting for last five months. The only time I heard from UNOPS was when they extended the submission deadline but there is no news yet although I dropped an email which was read but not got any response.

    Cheers!

During last three months, I personally applied with UN System organizations as said earlier in my post (UNOPS/UNEP/ITC) and I wish to hear from other applicants in same situation, their take on the process/status.

I did that in late October and haven’t heard anything yet and the application status remained same (under consideration/Shortlisting).

    My request here:
In regard to job application status – I would like to ask every poster here, please feel free to add dates (Vacancy level + UN System you are applying, Application submitted, Application status, Vacancy Status). I had been following this platform just to understand and learn what to expect.

    My question here:
Did anyone applied with UNOPS/UNEP/ITC in last 3 months, and would you like to share your experience.
