Using job email alerts? Watch for the email re-validation message!

This goes out to all of you using the UN Job List email alerts: As the number of subscribers is growing and growing and as my server capacity is – unfortunately – not growing, I will require all users to re-validate their email address and that they still want the email alert.

Its great to see so many people sign-up and I want to encourage you to continue to use the email alert, but I fear that some people who signed up many years ago don’t use their alerts any longer or – even worse – just mark them as spam. I don’t want to send unwanted emails and I don’t want to waste system resources so I will require everyone to periodically confirm they still want their alerts. Sorry if this causes any inconveniences but its the only thing I could come up with to manage this challenge.

For now, there is nothing to do. But watch for a confirmation link in the coming email alerts and if you see it – make sure you confirm you still want the email alert. Thanks for your help!

Are you a SQL Guru? The UNOPS Reporting team needs you!

UNOPS, the UN entity focusing on Project Management, Infrastructure and Procurement, is doing a lot of very exciting work these days. And for their work in the reporting team which spans from advanced performance measurements and complex business intelligence reporting all the way to advancing the UNOPS ITATI Aid Transparency platform, they are looking for qualified applicants that think and speak SQL.

While knowing the technology is key and a deep and demonstrated understanding of all things databases is important, this job is open to brilliant applicants without requiring a lot of experience.

If this sounds like you, head over to the vacancy and have a look: http://unjoblist.org/vacancy/?289049

PS: Even if this isn’t you, please spread the news. Thanks!

Want to apply for a job in the UN? Get your profile ready now!

It’s no secret that applying for a job in the UN can be tedious and time consuming. But getting your P.11 profile ready before you even apply is a great way to save time in the process. Even more importantly, if you apply to an organisation like UNICEF, the Secretariat (using INSPIRA) or UNOPS, make sure you get your profile into the organisation’s e-recruitment system early – I know of many examples where deadlines were (almost) missed due to incomplete profiles and doing these profiles in a rush is never a good idea.

Good luck job hunting!

Last call: Apply to the UNICEF NETI Programme now!

I have written about the UNICEF NETI Programme before:

The New and Emerging Talent Initiative (NETI)is an entry point for professionals interested in an international career with UNICEF. As part of UNICEF’s global talent management strategy the NETI Programme focuses on attracting, selecting, developing and retaining new talent.

This is a reminder that the deadline of September 17th is approaching fast so you should get your application in now, if you want to be part of the NETI pool.

More about the programme is on the NETI site of UNICEF. Good luck!

Troubleshooting Email Alerts

Today is a great day since the UN Job List just cracked the 25.000 email alerts threshold. This proves that a growing number of people enjoy getting new jobs into their inbox. However, a number of people seem to face issues with their alerts.

How can I make sure I reliably get the UN Job List email alert?

First, make sure your email provider receives the UN Job List well: When you sign-up to the alert, you will get a confirmation email. Make sure you click the link in the email and add the email address to your “safe sender” list.

Second, don’t use your work email if your employer does not like you to use it for the UN Job List. I know of a number of governments / military / private sector organisations that filter job search related emails.

Third, please make sure you sign-out of the UN Job List if you don’t use it any longer. If you have problems, please let me know. I really want to make sure the alert is not considered SPAM and if you face any issue I will help you. So please help me and others but using the sign-out link. Thanks!

Going into the weekend, I want to post this as a reminder for all of you:
