User data shows me that the New Jobs section on the UN Job List is the most wanted section on the site. Also, I know that Twitter is used to spread the news about emerging topics widely and quick and so I decided to post the newest jobs on Twitter daily.

Unfortunately Twitter news are limited to 140 characters which is the reason for me posting only an abbreviated version of every job on Twitter.

So if you want be informed about the latest jobs, feel free to follow @UNjobList on Twitter. Of course the new Jobs site will keep posting the newly found jobs, and if you prefer RSS the new Job RSS is available for you, too.

I hope that you are enjoying the year-end activities and also that you find some quality time to spend with friends and family during the holidays.

2009 has been an exciting year: the UN Job List enjoyed a steady growth and what started as a very small technical experiment which was only used by me and a couple of good friends, is now a well established site with 15.000 page hits on a regular weekday. But not only the user base of the site grew during 2009; there are also a few more organizations on the UN Job List now.

Statistics apart, what I appreciate the most is the commitment and the dedication that many of you users show and your feedback to me. Many of you feel the urge to work on impro ving this world’s state of affairs and that honors you. I hope that all of us will succeed in this endeavor in the coming year.

With this I would like to wish you happy holidays and all the best for 2010,

How to better find the UN job you are looking for

Lately, I received a lot of e-mails and comments about how to better find jobs on the UN Job List. Firstly, thanks everyone for sending me your feedback! I’m reading all of your mails and comments and I enjoy your feedback. If you have ideas, please let me know.

How to better find vacancies
When searching for jobs it is important to understand the UN Job List. As you know the UN Job List takes vacancies straight for the UN original vacancy page of that organization. So the UN Job List shows, whatever the organization displays. Now some of the organizations do publish their duty station and some don’t. Some do publish the grade of the vacancy and some don’t. In short the tips and tricks outlined here are still valid.

Please note that this also affects the listing by duty station. E.g. you will not find the IAEA in the Vienna listing even though the IAEA is of course on the UN Job List since the robot can’t currently extract the duty station from the IAEA job site.

Another question I often receive is the question about WFP. Especially now since WFP is launching massive outreach efforts many people seem to be interested in WFP and I would love to publish WFP vacancies but this organization pursues a roaster approach so they don’t publish vacancies and thus I can’t add them to the list.

Robot updates in progres…

A quick note for all the 1000+ daily visitors of the UN Job List: I know that some of my robots have been a bit “on-and-off” lately. Sorry for that.

I’m in the process of fixing these issues. And there is good progress: for instance the UN Galaxy robot is fixed now and while working on it I added two new departments of the UN.

You know that the UN Job List is basically a hobby project so sometimes I’m not quite as fast as I wished to be in adressing issues. But I want to make sure that you are informed about what is going on. So I started to publish items that I want to change/add/fix in the brand new Developer’s Corner. If you want me to add an items, just let me know in the comments below.
