Having problems with the e-mail alerts?

Thousands of people are using the UN Job List every day to find their job in the UN System. Many check the site every day for new postings. However, if you don’t want to visit the site every day, you can sign-up for an email alert, that will send you new jobs every Saturday.

There are a few questions that come up from time to time on these alerts, so here are the most frequent questions:

Q: I signed up for the alert and didn’t get a confirmation email. What should I do?

A: Firstly, check if you entered you email correctly. If you didn’t sign-up with your correct email address, sign-up again with the right one. Secondly, check you spam folder and add the UN Job List to the safe sender list. This should do it.

Q: I signed up for the alert. All went well but after 1 year I don’t receive the email any longer. What’s wrong?

A: After a year, you will need to reconfirm your interest in the UN Job List alert. I have limited resources on my server and I don’t want to send emails that are not appreciated. So I will deactivate any alert that is not reconfirmed after one year. If you missed the reconfirmation, don’t worry – just sign-up once again and you will receive the alert without any problems.

Q: The UN Job List emails land in my spam folder, what can I do?

A: Please add the sender to the safe sender list. And please sign-out of alerts rather than banning the alerts as spam. I will NOT send any unwanted emails. I hate spam just as much as the rest of you. Thanks so much for your help!

Q: I signed-up with my @un.org address to the alert, I sometimes get the alert and sometime I don’t – what’s going on?

A: In short: use a different email address. The technical explanation is: The un.org email server has a funny way to implement grey listing that results in hundreds of bounces every week and I haven’t found any server admin from un.org that could help with the issue. Since there are so many colleagues over at the UN that signed up for the alert at some point in the day, the server seems to start rejecting UN Job List alerts. If you know someone working for the UN who could help, please leave a comment below. Thanks!

If there is anything else, please let me know in the comments below. Thanks!
