Road travel and passing through check-points

During his mission in Ivory Coast, The Little Peacekeeper is traveling from field office to field office to meet colleagues and partners in the regions outside of Abidjan. Even after the end of hostilities, security conditions in some areas are still uncertain and there are many roadblocks around towns. At one checkpoint, he met Touré, who waved him through quickly so the Little Peacekeeper could continue his mission

.

Konate, the driver who drove him safely around the country, was happy to count on The Little Peacekeeper’s good offices to allow the mission to proceed smoothly.

We are all Norwegians

The Little Peacekeeper is horrified to learn about the attacks that have happened in Norway yesterday. He is deeply saddened for the victims and stands in silence in their memorial. He believes that many people can use a little peacekeeper right now, so if you know of a friend who is affected by these events, please be extra kind and helpful. Also, if you don’t know much about Norway, this may be a good time to learn as much as you can about the country, the wonderful people and their values. If you want, share what you like about Norway and the Norwegians in the comments below.

The Little Peacekeeper is in Cote d’Ivoire

After four months of conflict, Cote d’Ivoire is gradually returning back to normalcy. The Little Peacekeeper is currently on mission to support post-conflict recovery activities. Here, you can see him visiting a market in a war-affected area rehabilitated by UNDP. As you can see, he likes to meet local people and he is making lots of new friends.

Latin American Peacekeeping Partnership Project

The Little Peacekeeper is in Paraguay where he is taking part in a workshop of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre’s (http://www.peaceoperations.org/) programme ‘Latin American Peacekeeping Partnership Project’. On the picture you can see him learn about Protection of Civilians in the Paraguay Peacekeeping Training Centre (CECOPAZ).

Meeting other Peacekeeping representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Peru and Uruguay, the Little Peacekeeper is tempted to try another Peacekeeper’s service cap. On the picture you can see him contemplate how this would work but he decides to stick to his little blue helmet for now.

Time to say farewell…

The Little Peacekeeper has been quite a while in Chile now and it’s time for him to say his farewell. On the picture you can see him getting ready just outside the Sala Raúl Prebisch which is dedicated to a former CEPAL Executive Secretary who is known to the economists amongst you for the Prebisch-Singer Thesis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer%E2%80%93Prebisch_thesis.

Just before leaving and in order to be fit for his journey, the Little Peacekeeper is eating some wonderful Chilean grapes:

With CEPAL in Chile

The picture in the last post of the Little Peacekeeper is the CEPAL (http://www.eclac.org/) building in Santiago. During the earthquake in 2010 parts of the building got damaged so that some of his colleagues had to move into a temporary office in a container which is what you see on today’s picture.
