    Hi All,

Interesting forum. I have a question about grades in the UN. I’ve applied for a couple of jobs at P3 level. Looking at the job description, it would appear I am qualified to apply. I don’t have an advanced degree, but have a first level degree and the required extra number of years work experience. Also, I don’t speak a second language although English is my mother tounge – both job descriptions only asked for English. I’m not expecting to even get through to the interview stage, but am worried that if I did I would embarrass myself as I’m not “up to the job”. In all organisations I’ve worked for, “Officer” roles have been mid level roles, reporting to a Head of Section and maybe managing one or two Support Staff. Is this similar in the UN? Or are P roles more senior than that? For example, I’ve seen administration roles at all grades – P2-P5? Again in other organisations I’ve worked for administrative roles would be the equivalent of P1, senior administrative roles P2, officer roles P3, deputy head of section P4 and head of section P5. Then you would have Senior Management in the D grade. Anyone have any thoughts?
